Outdoor Entertaining

You:  “Hey Honey!  Do you have any ideas of what you’d like to do this weekend?”

Your Honey:  “The weather’s going to be great, so let’s bring the family and friends on over!!! “

Seems so simple, doesn’t it?  Well, if you don’t have any place to entertain your family and friends outdoors, you probably wouldn’t say that.  You’d probably go out somewhere instead, when what you’d really like to do is treat your friends to a great time at your place.

Your outdoor environment is just as important as your indoor environment.  You put thought, time, and money into making sure your indoor living space is laid out nicely, has the amenities that you want such as granite countertops, a kitchen, and everything you can think of.  But when the weather is nice and you want to be outside, then having a great outdoor entertaining space is oh-so-important!

The family that has the property in this photo wanted a place to have meals outdoors, a grill, have a small fire, and a place for the kids to play.  The photo shows a beautiful natural bluestone patio area which has room for a nice sized table, a moveable fire pit, space for a grill, and a play set for the kids.  When considering the size needed for this patio, an important consideration is to leave room for comfortable foot traffic.

You will also notice in the photo that there’s a gorgeous fieldstone “sitting wall” at the edge of the patio.  This does so much for this patio!  It helps to “define the space” and separate it from a different usage area, and it increases the seating capability for extra guests.  The natural stone in the wall and the patio surface blend beautifully with the wooded / lakeshore setting.

Maybe your outdoor entertaining needs would be different than this family.  Perhaps you don’t have the need for a playset, but you’d really like to have a full outdoor kitchen and a pizza oven.  Whatever is on your outdoor entertaining wish list, there’s a way to accomplish it.  Start dreaming!
