You’ll love having a Fire Pit

I’d say that a fire pit is one of the classic all-time “MUST-HAVES” in any landscape.

Once the basics are done, such as a front walk, a patio and some plants and grass, the next things you’re going to be wanting will be the ‘extras’.

Maybe a path on the side of the house, or an island planting in the yard, or a nice lamp post.

But, the most commonly added feature around the Lakes Region of New Hampshire is a FIRE PIT.   Everyone wants one.  They’re such a great way to spend an evening.  Great for just two people, or a crowd…great for a quiet night just relaxing with your honey, or a fun night with your friends.

A fire pit will need to be kept a certain distance away from the house, and you will need to obtain a fire permit and abide by its rules.  Just use common sense and keep safety in mind by keeping extinguishing materials close by… just in case.  Then, light up a fire, sit back and enjoy!  Nothing is quite as mesmerizing as staring into the flames.

The fire pit in this photo is off to the edge of the patio near some naturally occurring ledge outcropping.  The patio is partially surrounded by a low retaining wall which is perfectly suited for overflow seating due to it’s nice bench-height.  When sitting on the low wall or at a chair near the fire pit, you will look out over the lake.  Perfect for a wonderful evening.

Fire pits can also serve as an ambient light source when you want to switch from the traditional outdoor light that you’ve been using for so long. While the light that comes from that one burning fire isn’t the brightest (maybe even not bright enough for you to read a book outside at night), it is an ambient source of light that creates a cozy atmosphere for either some alone time, or some quality time with loved ones. I love this blog! I recently started a landscaping company and fire pit installations has been my number one request so far. A good portions of my clients have tried to create their own and have failed. People don't realize there is more to it than just digging a hole and throwing down some bricks. Thanks for the blog as I'll definitely be checking back in!
