2022 Perennial Plant of the Year

Drumroll…… And the winner is……. Little Bluestem!

Schizachyrium scoparium (and cultivars)

This plant is a clumping grass which is very rugged and dependable.  It blends beautifully in the garden with other perennial plants such as Sedum, Coneflowers, and Asters as well as other grasses.

One of the best things about this plant is that it is NATIVE to many parts of this country.  Natives are growing in popularity and are rapidly being recognized for their many benefits. This plant is adaptable to a wide variety of conditions and is very low maintenance.  Just don’t give it too much water.

This grass is spiky in shape and is very tough and dependable.

The blue color is outstanding and looks amazing in the Fall garden.
