Low Maintenance is all the Rage

Since 2020 was a year where many people were staying at home, one of the new trends in hobbies is gardening!

Here are some predictions in the gardening trend post 2020.

GOOF PROOF PLANTS

Plants that are low maintenance and easy to care for are a no-brainer. New gardeners love easy to care for plants! So, plants with durability and ease are important. As a matter of fact, “Low Maintenance”is our #1 request of customers here at Landscapes by Tom.

We want to make sure that new gardeners have great success and have their free time not taken up too much by fussy plants that require lots of care.

LOW MAINTENANCE

Plants that are easy to maintain (low maintenance) are highly requested. These plants should be super hardy, require very little pruning, stay nice looking without much deadheading, and basically not require much human intervention to remain a satisfying landscape plant. These plants should be resistant to insect and disease damage, and provide multi-season interest. In other words, LOW MAINTENANCE plants are always in high demand.

EASY PERENNIALS

Perennials that are easy to maintain are huge. People are not only looking for easy-to-care-for trees and shrubs. Perennials are being incorporated into the landscape like never before!

LOW MAINTENANCE IN ALL ASPECTS OF LANDSCAPING

Not only are people trending towards low maintenance plants, they also want an easy-care landscape in general. This includes ideas such as reducing the amount of lawn, incorporating aspects that will reduce weed whacking and perhaps even installing heat under the new paver walkway therefore eliminating the need to shovel.

The photo shows a handicap accessible ramp for a residential front entry. We installed heating under the paver ramp so that there will be no need to shovel the ramp.
