Making a fire pit patio in a sloped side yard space
So, you have an area of your yard that’s sloped, but you’d like to make a fun space to use there?
A patio with a fire pit is the perfect idea for a fun place to hang out!
It’s really just a question of what height you’d like to put your patio. The patio could be designed to be at the lowest height of the slope (like the one in the photograph), or it could be at the top of the slope with steps up to it.
In this instance, it seemed better to locate it at the bottom of the slope. Here’s why: Since the slope was cut into, a retaining wall was constructed at the rear of the patio. The height of the wall is perfect as a backdrop for the seating area, and the wall doubles as overflow seating area for larger groups of guests.
If the patio would have been designed to be at the height of the top of the slope, it wouldn’t have felt as private or ‘tucked in’. It also wouldn’t have had that overflow seating area that the wall provides.
